Renewable Energy

The aim is to power the development with 100% renewable energy. The following decisions were made to achieve this goal:

Energy source

We will use electricity instead of gas. Natural gas is often used for cooking, hot water and heating. We have decided not to connect any of the dwelllings to natural gas because natural gas is not a renewable energy source. Instead we will use induction for cooking and electric boosted solar hot water system. We believe that space heating will not be required thanks to good solar passive design.

Energy production

• PV Panels The houses have been designed with north facing roofs for photo voltaic (solar) panels. We are thinking of a 3kW system on each of the town houses and a 1.5kW system for the apartments. The final decisin will depend on Government rebates and offers available at the time. Overall, we will try to ensure that we produce enough energy to cover the needs of the whole development.
• Solar hot waterAll dwellings will also have a solar hot water system.
